Bhubaneswar: In a massive crackdown against narcotics trade in Odisha, the Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch has arrested several persons after conducting raids across the State.
As per the direction of the DGP, a special drive had been conducted from January 6 to 15, 2020, during which STF raided various places in Puri, Balasore, Angul, Khurda, Pipili, Dherikanal and Bhubaneswar area and registered 05 (five) cases against drug peddlers.
STF arrested 11 accused persons and also seized a total of 93 grams of Brown Sugar, over Rs 9 lakh cash, three Motor Bikes, bank accounts, and other incriminating materials.
During investigation it was ascertained that the accused persons used to procure contraband brown sugar from Balasore, Midnapore/ Murshidabad and Kolkata of West Bengal side and used to sell in the locality to the youths.
Further in the extended drive for STF, it registered an instant case and seized good amount of contraband brown sugar from the possession of accused persons.
On January 19, on the basis of intelligence input, a raid was conducted at the side of NH-16 i.e. near the backside gate of Kalinga Stadium against illegal trade of Narcotic Drugs, as a result of which two accused person namely Sk Sagba alias Roy (22) of Sikharchandi Nagar in Bhubaneswar and Tanmaya Kumar Sahu (20) of Gopalgaon in Balasore were apprehended.
During search, brown sugar weighing 324 gms, one motorcycle and other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession. Further during interrogation the accused persons disclosed about the procurement of brown sugar from one Sk Fakir of Galapola in Balasore and two others.
Sk Fakir, who is a habitual big drug peddler and as per his direction and conspiracy the above noted accused persons along with Md Suhail of Arada Bazar & Sk Haibul of Galapola also delivered brown sugar to different persons or parties.
Subsequently a raid was conducted at Balasore. During the raid, third accused Sk Fakir along with Md Sohel and Sk Haibul were arrested and from their possession, one Maruti Car, 4 motorcycles including one KTM M/c, Rs 1.84 lakh cash, Debit Cards and other incriminating materials were seized.
As the accused five could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such contraband material, they were arrested on January 19. The STF has registered a case in this connection and further investigation is on.
