Cuttack: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch has intensified probe into the death of an elephant in Gopapur Section of Baramba Forest Range. An eight-member team of the STF led by SP-incharge, Bilasini Nayak excavated the suspected region in the forest and discovered an elephant carcass.
A Junior Revenue Assistant of Baramba Tahasil was deployed at the site as a Government witness to record the discovery of the tusker’s carcass. Further investigation is underway, an STF official said. The Range Officer of Baranba Forest Range Suresh Kumar Sarangi was also present while the excavation was being carried out.
“We received information from a reliable source that an elephant was killed and buried in Baramba Forest Range. All formalities were in place before the excavation began in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. The body of an elephant has been recovered. Further investigation will reveal details of this crime,” Nayak said.
