Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch has arrested a drug peddler during a raid in Bhadrak on Monday night. The accused has been identified as Mir Minhaj Quadri of Sankarnagar in Bhadrak.
The STF sleuths acted on a tip-off about illegal transportation of narcotics on State Highway number 9 last night. On the basis of this input, an STF team carried out the operation on Bhadrak – Chandbali road. During the search (of Quadri) brown sugar weighing 1.140 kilograms and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession, an STF official said.
“He was unable to produce any valid authority supporting the possession of such contraband. Quadri was arrested booked under Sections 21(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. He was produced in a local court today,” the official added.
In the last 25 days, the STF has conducted raids at various places and busted four drug-peddling rings (including the latest one on Monday). Three persons have been arrested in these cases so far. Brown sugar weighing 2.552 kilograms and 2,000 kilograms of ganja has been recovered from their possession.
