Bhubaneswar: A week after busting a leopard skin smuggling racket, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch has nabbed four more accused in the case and will be forwarding them to court on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Kalicharan Das (56), Bhaskar alias Bhagirathi Naik (40), Pandita alias Pitambar Khatei (40) and Netra alias Netrananda Kissan (22). While Netra is a resident of Sundargarh district, remaining three accused hail from Nayakote area of Keonjhar.
Reportedly, Netra was the mediator in the deal in which Bhaskar and Pandita had arranged the leopard skin and given to Kalicharan who passed it over to the persons arrested by the STF earlier.
Three persons identified as Sachikanta Nayak of Sundargarh and his associates Ramanisen Behera and Jagnadutta Behera of Deogarh had been arrested by the STF from Barkote area of Deogarh district on evening of June 20 and a leopard skin had been seized from their possession.
A case in this regard under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 had been registered on June 21. Meanwhile, efforts are on to arrest other accused persons in the case.
