Bhubaneswar: A special team of Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha police today arrested a youth and seized around 1.22 kg brown sugar worth over Rs 2 crore from him at Tigiria in Cuttack district.
The accused Suryakant Mantri, a mechanical engineer was booked under NDPS Act 1985 and produced before a local court.
Suryakant was dealing for the sale of brown sugar at Kalibari in Tigiria on Tuesday. On a tip-off, the STF officials reached there in plain clothes and caught him with the contraband items.
He used to bring brown sugar from Jaleswar in Balasore district and supply it to small traders in the locality.
The accused, a resident of Bindhanima village of Tigiria, had completed a diploma in mechanical engineering. He was doing job in a Kolkata-based company for a short period. Later, he quit his job and entered into the brown sugar trade.
