Balasore: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday seized 1380 grams of brown sugar in Balasore and arrested a drug peddler in this connection.
On the basis of intelligence input, a raid was conducted by a team of STF, Bhubaneswar with the help of Balasore Police at Masjidgali near Railway Level Crossing, Aradabazar, Balasore on Wednesday against illegal deal/possession of Narcotic Drugs.
One interstate drug peddler namely Sk Rafiq alias Ruga was apprehended during the raid. He hails from Panchkula, West Bengal, and at present resides at Masjidgali, Arada Bazar under Sahadevkhunta police limits of Balasore.
During the search, contraband brown sugar weighing 1380 gm and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession. Rafiq could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such contraband materials, for which he was arrested and forwarded to the court of District & Sessions cum Spl. Judge, Balasore.
A case has been registered in this connection Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and investigation is on. Rafiq was also involved in three other criminal cases including narcotic cases of Balasore district.
Notably, STF is continuing special drive against narcotic drugs. Since 2020, STF has seized more than 57 Kg of Brown Sugar/Heroin, 202 Gram Cocaine, and more than 111 quintals of Ganja/Marijuana, Opium 750 gram, and arrested more than 158 drug dealers/peddlers.
