Sambalpur: The Central Action Committee (CAC) of all bar associations of western Odisha has suspended the ongoing agitation over the demand for the establishment of the High Court bench in Sambalpur but it will be revived, said the Chairman of the action committee of the Sambalpur District Bar Association (SDBA), Pradeep Bohidar.
He said that the CAC decided to suspend the ongoing agitation keeping in view the decision of the Supreme Court. However, the agitation will be revived as per the recommendation of the CAC after a discussion with stakeholders. It will continue till the establishment of a High Court bench in Sambalpur.
Bohidar also alleged that police are responsible for the vandalism noticed during the agitation in Sambalpur on Monday. He said that the CAC does not support such violence.
Police have arrested 24 lawyers for their involvement in the vandalism incident and Section 144 is in force in the entire court premises. A three-tier security arrangement has been made in the court area. No lawyer is allowed to enter the court premises.
After cancelling the licenses of all the members of the Sambalpur District Bar Association and arresting some prominent advocates, the situation has become somewhat normal. Police raids are continuing at various places.
