Bhubaneswar: A new low-pressure system over the central Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 2. As it approaches the coast, it may bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Going by the prediction of the regional weather department, the system is expected to cross the coast on October 3, bringing with it strong winds and heavy rainfall. The weather office has issued a yellow alert for 25 districts in Odisha, indicating potential thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Southern Odisha, in particular, is expected to experience heavy rainfall, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 km/h. The districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Gajapati are likely to be severely impacted. An orange warning has been issued for these districts, signalling heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The weather department is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
