Khordha: Khordha police have cracked the mystery behind Tuesday’s brutal murder of an artist Rashmi Ranjan Baliarsingh in Sagadabhanga village under Jankia police limits with the arrest of accused Somanath Lath.
Police said the deceased and the accused were allegedly maintaining a same-sex relationship with the former being the active partner. The murder was the fallout of bitterness in their sexual relationship, police added.
“The accused is a transgender. The accused and the deceased have been in a physical relationship since 2017. The deceased was the active partner. Both used to work as artists. In the meanwhile a female artist came into the picture and her marriage was fixed with the deceased which the accused did not like. The accused and the deceased used to have arguments over this and on the fateful day—January 2, they had arguments and the accused murdered him by hitting him with an iron rod lying in the room,” informed Additional Superintendent of Police (Khordha) Surendra Murmu briefing reporters here today.
Murmu said that the accused after committing the murder went absconding.
“On instructions of the SP a team headed by the SDPO was formed and subsequently the accused was arrested,” Murmu added.
Accused Somanath while confessing to have committed the murder said that they had argument and he had hit the deceased with a iron rod.
“We had arguments over our relationship. I hit him with an iron rod lying there. I didn’t have the intention to kill him but he died,” said accused Somanath Lath.
