Jajpur: The alleged high-handedness of a few police officers in the state came to the fore when Radhanath Das, a sub-inspector (SI) working at Dharmashala police station in Odisha’s Jajpur district, sent his resignation letter to the district Superintendent of Police Vineet Agarwal, alleging mental harassment by the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Rakesh Tripathy.
In his letter to the SP, Das alleged that the IIC has been torturing him mentally by burdening him with more cases to solve and working extra hours without sanctioning his leaves. The IIC has even denied Das leave to visit his ailing mother.
Das wrote, “I have an ailing mother at home and she is in her last stage of life. However, I have been deprived of leave to visit her. I’m mentally depressed as I’m not able to pay a visit to my mother. Instead of taking over sensational cases himself, he is assigning juniors to investigate such cases.” SI Das has further alleged that the IIC has been ignoring the investigation into a number of important cases including POCSO and rape cases. Instead of investigating the cases himself, IIC Tripathy has been forcing him to handle such sensitive cases, the SI alleged in his letter to the SP.
Stating that the IIC has been deliberately harassing him mentally and threatening him to put in trouble, SI Das has sought the SP’s permission to resign from his job.
