Bhubaneswar: A student was found dead in the hostel of a private institution in Keonjhar district late on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Jalandhara Mahanta, son of Jagabandhu Mahanta, a resident of Tangarpada village under Patna police station.

According to reports, Jalandhara was enrolled in a summer course at Gayatri Residential College, a private institution located in Keonjhar town, and had been residing in the college hostel.

On the night of the incident, he had dinner with his friends around 10 pm and subsequently retired to bed. However, when his hostel mates attempted to wake him around 1am, Jalandhara did not respond.

Concerned, the students contacted the college authorities, who immediately took action and rushed him to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital (DHH). Tragically, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The exact cause of his sudden death remains unclear at this time.

On receiving the information, the Town Police reached the scene and initiated an investigation into the matter.
