Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, a matric student died by suicide after being disappointed with his matriculation examination results at Alasudha village of Jagatsinghpur Sadar Block in Jagatsinghpur district on Friday.

The 16-year-old Balaram Rout, had appeared for the exam and was reportedly a brilliant student. However, he secured lower marks than expected, which led to his mental distress.

According to relatives, Balaram had anticipated scoring above 500 marks but secured around 295 marks. The disappointment seemed to be too much for him to handle, and he hanged himself from the ceiling of a room.

The body has been sent to Jagatsinghpur district headquarters Hospital for autopsy. Relatives and family members are still grappling with the shock of the incident.

“He was a brilliant student and had high expectations from his results. The poor marks led to his mental duress, which ultimately resulted in this tragic incident,” said Shakti Prasad Parida, a relative of Balaram.

“Balaram had expected to score above 500 marks. But when the results were announced today, he secured around 295 marks. These poor marks led to his mental distress. Due to mental duress, he hanged himself, Parida added.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the village.
