Malkangiri: Twenty students of Maribada Ashram School under Korukonda block of Malkangiri district on Saturday jumped the boundary wall of their hostel and went to meet the Collector to complain about embezzlement of rice and various problems in the school.
District Welfare Officer (DWO) Krupasindhu Behera met the children and took them to his office and asked them about the issues in the presence of PA, ITDA, Malkangiri. The students alleged that 20 bags of rice meant for them had been sold by Hostel Superintendent Ranjita Behera on August 23.
The students had clicked photos of the alleged incident and had submitted a written complaint in this regard to the Headmaster. As he did not take any action in this regard, they had decided to approach the Collector.
Refuting the allegations, Ranjita said that she had borrowed 20 bags of rice from the panchayat as there was no rice in the hostel for the last months. She had returned the same after the school received the fresh stock of Mid-Day Meal (MDM) rice.
