Dhenkanal: Students of an Upper Primary School at Pathargada in Sankarpur gram panchayat under Sadar block of Dhenkanal district, along with their guardians, have been staging dharna near the Collector office in protest of the closure of their school.
Reportedly, the State Government has planned to close down schools with student strength less than 40. While there are 36 students in the school, the guardians have claimed that with fresh admission, the student strength will increase to 45 but some persons are attempting to close the school to fulfill their vested interests.
“Our school is being demolished, because of which we will not be able to study and our future will be dark. If we are infected with COVID-19 today then we may get cured but what will become of us if our school is demolished,” said a protesting student Subhalaxmi Nayak.
While the local administration has decided to close the school and shift the students to another school at Tentulipatna, the parents have alleged that it is situated three kilometres away from their village and a canal flows in between, therefore it is dangerous for the children to travel there for their studies.
