Berhampur (Ganjam): Several students of Mukundapur government upper primary school under Aska police limits staged a dharna in front of the school protesting against assault on a student by a woman teacher.
Guardians and villagers also gathered at the school demanding strict action against the erring teacher for beating student in punishment-free zone.
According to reports, a class III student, Ayush Kumar Jena suffered injuries on head after a teacher beat him on Friday. He was bleeding severely due to assault.
On Saturday morning, students accompanied by some villagers staged dharna.
On being informed, the Block Education Officer (BEO) reached the spot and intervened in the matter. He assured the students and guardian of action after investigation.
“If the teacher is found guilty, action will be initiated against her. Guardians have alleged that a student suffered injuries on head. I am yet to get the statement of the teacher,” Monarani Mohanty, BEO Aska, said.
Later, students withdrew the agitation.
On the other hand, the teacher was on a leave.
