Balasore: A Sub Collector, who had gone to a location for conducting raids on activities of the sand mafia came under attack by the latter in Sahadevkhunta area of the district on Friday afternoon.
The Sub Collector was rescued by his PSO and rushed to the district headquarters hospital. He was treated for the injuries and discharged from the DHH today evening. Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde and Balasore SP Sagarika Nath rushed to the DHH, met the Sub Collector and inquired about his health.
“On the basis of a tip-off, the Sub Collector went to Sahadevkhunta area on Thursday and seized the machines involved in illegal sand mining. Today, when the Sub Collector went to execute seizure of the vehicles, the family members of the accused pelted stones at the officials,” the Collector said.
“A team of police officials has been pressed into action and the accused, already identified will be arrested very soon,” said Nath adding that a team led by Additional SP is camping at the spot to nab the accused persons.
Among others, local SDPO, and IIC Sahadevkhunta are present in the village where the administrative official was attacked. A case has been registered and a probe initiated in this matter, the SP stated.
