Subarnapur: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of a worker whose body was exhumed from a location in Gulapada village under Binika police station limits in Subarnapur district, while one more accused is still absconding.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ajit Sevak, the prime accused, along with Tapan Padhan and Shekhar Padhan, all residents of Gulapada village. The trio has been produced before the court, police said.
The case relates to the disappearance and murder of Prakash Mohanty, who had left his home on June 18 stating that he was going to work but failed to return. After waiting for several days, his wife Banita Mohanty lodged a complaint at Binika police station on June 23, expressing suspicion that her husband had been murdered.
Following the complaint, Binika police launched an investigation in multiple directions. During the probe, police exhumed the body of Prakash Mohanty from a location nearly 11 days after his disappearance, confirming the crime.
Police also seized an iron hammer, allegedly used in the murder. While three accused have been arrested and forwarded to court, efforts are underway to trace and arrest the fourth accused who remains on the run.
Details of the case were shared by Subarnapur SDPO Pratap Chandra Tripathy during a press conference. He said further investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of events and the role of the absconding accused.
