Puri: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Sunday created a 20-foot-long ‘Veena’ sand sculpture at Puri Beach as a tribute to legendary playback singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Asha Bhosle, fondly known as ‘Asha Tai’.
The artwork features a detailed sand portrait of the iconic singer alongside a large replica of a vinyl record, symbolising her timeless contribution to Indian music. The sculpture carries inscriptions reading “Tribute to Asha Tai” and “Your voice will live in our hearts forever,” reflecting admiration for her decades-long musical legacy.
Pattnaik, known for his sand art installations highlighting social messages and tributes to eminent personalities, once again drew public attention with this creation. Visitors at Puri Beach gathered around the installation, appreciating both the craftsmanship and the emotional sentiment behind the artwork.
The installation comes amid widespread mourning following reports of Asha Bhosle’s demise at the age of 93 in Mumbai. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday. Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed the news outside the hospital. Her last rites are scheduled to be held at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4 pm.
The sand sculpture stands as a symbolic homage to the musical legend, whose voice and contribution to Indian music continue to inspire generations.
