Bhubaneswar: On the eve of International Women’s Day, girl students of Sudarsan Sand Art Institute created a huge sand art on Puri beach to mark the occasion.
A total of eight girls sculpted the 20 ft wide and 8 ft high sand art by using around eight tonnes of sand. Through the sand art, they encouraged every woman to celebrate the day.
International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8 to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The event celebrates women’s achievements and raises awareness about women’s equality and lobbies for accelerated gender parity.
Observed for the first time in 1911, International Women’s Day aims to highlight and recognise the achievements of women in different spheres while also bringing attention to important issues including gender discrimination that exist even today.
The theme of 2022 International Women’s Day is “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. This year’s observance is in recognition and celebration of the women and girls who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation and response, and to honour their leadership and contribution towards a sustainable future.
