Sundargarh: The district administration in Sundargarh on Wednesday awarded scholarships to meritorious students who cleared their High School Certificate Exam in the district last year.
The scholarship programme is funded with the District Mineral Foundation’s (DMF) financial support.
As many as 14,932 students will be benefitted in the district under the scholarship programme.
Students securing more than 90 per cent marks were given a scholarship of Rs 40,000 each, while those securing above 80 per cent were awarded a scholarship of Rs 20,000 each.
Similarly, students securing more than 70 per cent marks were awarded a scholarship of Rs 15,000, while those with 60 per cent marks and above were given a scholarship of Rs 10,000.
Besides, those securing more than 50 per cent marks were given a scholarship of Rs 5,000 each.
A total of Rs 12, 92, 20,000 has been paid as scholarships to 24,932 students.
The scholarship awarding programme was launched at the District Education Officer’s office.
“All meritorious students who have passed the 10th exam are being awarded scholarships as an incentive from the DMF fund. The purpose is that students, while taking admission in higher secondary schools should have some money at their disposal to buy uniforms, textbooks or pay fees etc. Secondly, it is slab-based to induce a competitive spirit among the students. The lowest amount is Rs 5,000 and the highest is Rs 40,000,” informed Gavali Parag Harshad, Collector, Sundargarh.
“This amount will be useful for me to buy notebooks at the time of joining the higher secondary school and pay for the admission,” Vivekananda Sai, student beneficiary.
Talsara MLA Bhabani Shankar Bhoi, Zilla Parishad President Kunti Pradhan, Chairperson Sundargarh Municipality Tanaya Mishra and Collector Gavali Parag Harshad attended the programme as guests.
