Bhubaneswar: Sundargarh Collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan has directed officials to take swift and decisive action in response to reports of illegal coal smuggling activities in the Hemgir area.
In an official letter issued to the Sub-Collector of Sundargarh, the Deputy Director of Mines (DDM) in Rourkela and the Tahasildar of Hemgir, the Collector highlighted the identification of a significant illegal coal mining operation in the region. It is believed that this operation has been ongoing for a long period, with the illegally mined coal being funneled through various channels.
To curb this illicit activity, the Collector has ordered a thorough inspection of all coal washeries and depots in the vicinity, along with a detailed verification of stock levels and relevant documentation.
The Collector further emphasized that if any discrepancies are discovered during these checks, strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal operation.
The process is expected to be completed within the next three days, with a report on compliance to be submitted to the Collector.
