Sundargarh: Jewellery Shop Owner’s Son Shot Dead, Gold Ornaments Bag Looted

Sundargarh:  In a daring broad daylight robbery, armed miscreants not only looted the son of a jewellery shop owner at gunpoint, but also shot him to death this morning.

Deceased Rohit Verma had reportedly sustained serious bullet injuries in his head and abdomen following which he succumbed to treatment at J.P. Hospital in Rourkela.

Reports said that the three unidentified bike-borne miscreants accosted Rohit when he was about to open the shutter of their jewellery shop, named Maa Mangala, that is located near Bargaon bus stand and a few yards away from the police station.

They all of a sudden fired at him and decamped with his bag comprising gold ornaments when critically injured Rohit was trying to escape from their loot attempt.

The armed robbers fled the spot with the booty towards Sundargarh route.

Reports also said that another person, who tried to save Rohit, also sustained bullet injury in his thigh.

Both had initially been rushed to Bargaon hospital and were later shifted to Rourkela in a critical condition where Rohit died.

The incident has taken place about 20 km away from the district headquarters town here.

On the other hand, a gun has reportedly been seized from the highway as it had fallen off the hands of the zooming past assailants.

The police are now on their toes by swinging into action as a massive manhunt has reportedly been launched to nab the criminals.

Till the filing of the story, no one was reportedly apprehended.
