Bhubaneswar: A 40-year-old man was given a new lease on life by the surgery team at Sundargarh Medical College and Hospital after a critical operation. The patient had sustained a stab injury with a knife on July 16 around 9 PM and was initially treated at Kinjirkela Community Health Centre (CHC) before being referred to the medical college hospital due to the severity of the wound.
The patient had suffered a severe injury with an intestine protruding out of his abdomen through the wound. After initial treatment in the casualty ward, a team of experts led by Professor P.K. Dalei and Additional Superintendent Dr. Laxmidhar Padhy was constituted to perform the surgery.
The team, comprising Associate Professor Dr. Rabinarayan Guru, Assistant Professor Dr. Dharbind Jha, Senior Doctor Dr. Abhijit, and anesthesia expert Dr. Minakshi Pandey, successfully conducted a two-hour-long procedure on July 17. The patient’s condition is now stable, and he is showing positive improvements under intensive observation and care.
Additional Superintendent Dr. Laxmidhar Padhy said that with the current rate of recovery, the patient is expected to be discharged in about seven days and should be able to return to normalcy in around 15 days.
The patient’s family members and relatives have praised the surgery team, doctors, staff, and authorities of Sundargarh Medical College and Hospital for their prompt action and care in saving the patient’s life. Notably, the surgery department of the hospital was commissioned in July 2024.
