Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested a convicted murderer who absconded 17 years ago in Sundargarh.
Manglu Rout (42), of Tarkera village, was convicted in 2005 for stabbing his relative Gopal Rout to death over a land dispute and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment. Released on parole in 2007, he failed to return to jail. Police had been looking for him since then.
The Rajgangpur police tracked Rout’s movements, monitoring his contacts and family, and arrested him this morning. “We kept a close watch and waited for the right moment to strike,” said a police official.
Rout’s crime dates back to 2002, when he killed Gopal Rout over a land dispute. The police are relieved to have apprehended the fugitive.
