Bhubaneswar: Sunita Biswal, daughter of former Chief Minister Hemanand Biswal, has joined the Congress party, just a day after resigning from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Her decision comes ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Odisha on July 11.
She joined the Congress party in the presence of PCC president Bhakta Charan Das, senior leader Jaydev Jena and others at the Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
Sunita Biswal had resigned from the primary membership of the BJD on Wednesday, citing personal reasons, and sent her resignation letter to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik. She had contested the 2019 general elections as a BJD candidate from the Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat, securing around 2,77,000 votes.
Her move has sparked speculation about Sunita’s political future, especially with Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to the state. Earlier, there were rumours about Sunita joining the Congress party in view of the 2024 elections, which she had later refuted.
