Bhubaneswar: The alleged sunstroke death toll went up to 87 even as the State witnessed a bit of relief from scorching heat wave condition on Tuesday.
According to a press release issued by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), out of 87 deaths, the Government has completed enquiry into 32 cases. 16 sun-stroke death cases have been confirmed while 16 others died due to other reasons.
Twelve cases were reported alone from Sambalpur district while Angul and Dhenkanal and Kendrapada have recorded nine and ten and ten cases respectively. Khorda has recorded six cases till now.
According to Meteorological Department, only four towns in the State recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
Angul recorded the highest temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius. Bhubaneswar recorded 39.6 degrees Celsius while Cuttack sizzled at 37.4 degree Celsius.
