Bhubaneswar: In an act of superstition, a man killed his aunt by shooting an arrow on suspicion of being a witchcraft at Pithaldhua village under the Kankadahad police station in Dhenkanal district on Saturday.
Sunhu Sinku, a 70-year-old woman, was fatally shot with an arrow by her nephew, Damodar Purti, who suspected her of practicing witchcraft.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 10 am on Saturday when Damodar suddenly entered Sundhu’s house and attacked her with an arrow, striking her right chest. Sundhu’s husband and daughter, who were present at the scene, screamed for help, but Damodar managed to escape.
On being informed by the villagers, Kamakhyanagar SDPO Gyan Ranjan Mishra and Kankadahad police station officials reached the village and managed to arrest the accused with seizing the bow and arrows used in the crime. The police have also Sundhu’s body for post-mortem examination.
Investigations revealed that there was no prior dispute between Sundhu and Damodar. Sundhu’s daughter disclosed that Damodar had suspected her mother of practicing witchcraft, which prompted him to commit the crime.
