Keonjhar: Dr Ganpati Pradhan, a surgeon employed by the Telkoi Community Health Center in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, was removed from service by the Keonjhar Health Department on Wednesday on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe.
According to reports, Dr Pradhan demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 in two instalments for conducting the post-mortem report of an old woman named Kalavati Behera of Kardangi village. Kkalavati’s grandson agreed to give the bribe but videographed the entire discussion as well as the payment of the bribe. Soon the video clip went viral on social media and Dr Pradhan was served a show-cause notice.
On Thursday, Dr Pradhan submitted his response to the show-cause notice, but his reply was found unsatisfactory.
Subsequently, the Keonjhar District Health Department terminated his service as per Clause-7 of the Contractual Service Agreement, the CDMO informed.
While Dr Pradhan declined to speak to the media citing government restrictions, people in Teloi are happy to get rid of a corrupt medico.
