Puri: The Survey for setting up of dedicated air-conditioned corridor for devotees waiting in queue outside the Shree Jagannath Temple began today.
The 84-metre-long and 12-metre-wide air-conditioned tunnel-like corridor with tension fabric covering will be set up from Marchikot Chowk to Shree Jagannath Temple office on the Grand Road.
The dedicated corridor will have five rows with steel barricades for the smooth movement of devotees visiting the Shree Jagannath Temple for the darshan of the deities.
It will have resting places for old and infirm devotees apart from arrangements for drinking water etc.
The corridor will provide the service throughout the year while it will be dismantled during Rath Yatra. The Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation has been entrusted with the setting up of the dedicated corridor.
It is expected to be completed by the 25th of this month.
Over 500 makeshift shops on the stretch between Marichkot Chowk and Shree Nahar and the area around Shree Jagannath Temple have been evicted for effective crowd and traffic management.
