Suspected Petty Coal Smuggler Jumps Into Pond, Dies, Mob Torches Police Vehicle In Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A mob turned violent following the death of local youth and torched a police van at Jijharpur village in Tihidi block of the district.

The incident took place when the cops were conducting a raid on coal smugglers today afternoon. During the operation, one Bapi Mahalik jumped into a marshy water body to escape from the police, reports stated.

Bapi could not survive the jump and succumbed. The mishap triggered violence and an angry mob blocked the BHadrak – Chandbali road near Alinagar.

The body of the youth remained missing for a couple of hours and could be retrieved with the help of Fire Services personnel.

The protesters placed the body of the deceased on the road and demanded compensation. Some of them allegedly set a police jeep on fire.

The mob was placated with additional force deployed on the spot. Officials of local administration and police rushed and held discussions to control the situation.
