Bhubaneswar: A suspected pigeon has been caught from a fishing boat in the Bay of Bengal in Kendrapara. Both legs of the pigeon were tagged with English words and codes, sparking espionage suspicions.

Fisherman Ratan Das from Jambu village under Mahakalapada police station was fishing when the bird flew into the deep sea and landed on his boat. Ratan caught the bird and handed it over to forest department staff.

The tags on the pigeon’s legs had the inscription CHN-19-2024 and serial number 988822. After holding it for two days, the forest department released the bird.

This incident is reminiscent of similar cases in Odisha, where pigeons with suspicious devices were caught earlier.
