Sundargarh: Villagers thrashed a woman over practising witchcraft after death of a minor girl who was found from an iron trunk inside her house in at Ghumuda under Dharuadihi police limits in Sundargarh district on Saturday.

Reportedly, four-year-old Poonam Sa, daughter of Indramani Sa of the village, was playing outside her house after returning from Anganwadi centre today afternoon when she suddenly went missing.

Family members with help of villagers searched for her at every place possible but were unable to trace her whereabouts. It was after they raided the house of a woman, they found the girl inside an iron trunk with several injury marks on her body.

The girl was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital where doctor declared her brought dead. Irate over this the villagers tied the said woman to a tree and thrashed her. Later, police arrived and rescued her from the villagers.
