**Puri :** A ten-member committee headed by Puri Collector Aravind Agarwal started digging in to the official documents regarding the Swargadwar land encroachment case.
The committee examined the records of last 90 years at the Circuit House here to get a clear picture on how the land of the holy cremation ground went into private ownership.
The committee will submit its report in next seven days.
Sources said that the records, starting from 1899 settlement till 1989 obtained from the tehsil office, are under scanner.
On the other hand, the district unit of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) also staged protest against the land grab. The party demanded strong action against the accused and expansion of the cremation ground.
Along with that, the party also proposed to shift the tombs lying inside the Swargadwar premises, including that of former chief minister Biju Patnaik.
Similarly, members of Swargadwar Traders’ Association also opposed the Swargadwar expansion proposal. Hundreds of shopkeepers, hoteliers and vendors protested against expansion of Swargadwara and argued that it will hurt their business. The cremation ground should be redeveloped but without further expanding it.
