**Dhenkanal/ Balasore:** Every year on August 31, ‘Local Self Governance Day’ is celebrated to recognize that the powers of the municipalities are in the hands of the people. This year, ‘Swayat Shasan Dibas’ (Local Self Governance Day) was celebrated today with much fanfare across several parts of Odisha.
In Dhenkanal, officials gathered in the Municipality office premises to observe local self-governance day by hoisting the national flag. Member of Parliament Tathagata Satpathy graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Municipality Chairman Sudhanshu Dalei hoisted the flag and then went on to garland the statues of illustrious sons of the soil in and around city.
In Soro Municipality office, Chairman Subhasmita Mohanty hoisted the flag and presided over a meeting. The occasion was also attended by Soro Tehsildar and the importance of this day was discussed and steps to improve the working of the Municipality office was deliberated upon.
Similarly, Swayat Shasan Dibas was also observed by Municipal Corporations of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, and Sambalpur along with celebrations in other municipalities and NACs across the State.
