Bhubaneswar: Vigilance today arrested Boipariguda Police Station IIC Susanta Satpathy and produced him in court in connection with a disproportionate asset case.
The anti-graft agency had recovered Rs 37,27,000 unaccounted cash from his possession on Monday during simultaneous searches at his government houses and office.
On Monday night, a team of Vigilance officials intercepted him near Jeypore, while he was coming from Boipariguda to Cuttack by bus. During interception, a sum of Rs.2,70,000 was recovered from him, which he could not account for satisfactorily. The entire cash was seized, vigilance said.
Soon after the interception, simultaneous searches were conducted at government quarters at Boipariguda, his office chamber at Boipariguda Police Station and another government quarters at Cuttack.
During searches, the vigilance sleuths recovered Rs 3,00,000 from his quarters at Boipariguda, Rs 1,80,000 from his office chamber at Boipariguda Police Station and Rs 29,77,000 from his government residence in Cuttack.
Satpathy could not satisfactorily account for total cash seizure, vigilance stated.
In this connection, Koraput Vigilance registered a case under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Susanta Satpathy.
The investigation is in progress. Details of immovable and movable assets including investments, deposits are being investigated, vigilance said through an official release.
Satpathy had joined as a constable in 1999 under Bhubaneswar district Police and then got selected through direct recruitment in the year 2008 as Sub-Inspector of Police.
From 2009 to 2023, he worked as SI in Keonjhar district, Narsinghpur PS, Tigiria PS, Athagarh PS and Manglabag PS under Cuttack district, Naugaon PS, Jagatsinghpur, Ramanguda OP under Gunupur PS, Dist-Rayagada. In July 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Inspector and joined in Koraput district as Inspector, DCRB and in-charge Cyber PS.
In August 2023, he was transferred as IIC of Boipariguda police station.
