Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officers on Monday conducted simultaneous searches on the property associated with Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, Junior Engineer, Office of BDO, Tàlcher in Angul district, on the allegation of possession of disproportionate assets.
A total of four DSPs, eight Inspectors, and other staff conducted simultaneous searches at four places associated with Sahoo on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.
During the course of the investigation, the Vigilance found that Sahoo had joined as a contractual Junior Engineer in September 2010. Till December 2015, he continued on a contractual basis on a consolidated remuneration of Rs 12,500 per month and was then regularized.
Approximately total income during the service period was Rs 39,00,000. His wife is a housewife.
However, during searches, Vigilance unearthed 10 Fixed Deposit Accounts in various banks with deposits worth Rs 46,24,500 in their names. Also, the balance in Savings Accounts is approximately Rs 50,65,693. The total deposits add up to Rs 96,90,193.
The Vigilance also found Insurance Premiums paid worth Rs 12,56,515.
Further, the anti-corruption agency has unearthed one double-storeyed and one single-storeyed building, one Hyundai i10 car, five two-wheelers, 261 gram gold ornaments so far. The search is still underway.
