Bhubaneswar: The coal gasification based urea plant of Talcher Fertilizers Ltd, the first of its kind project will be commissioned by 2023, informed Chhabilendra Roul, Union Fertilizers Secretary here today.
“This fertilizer plant with a production capacity of 12.5 lakh MTPA will be completed by 2023,” said Roul addressing newsmen at a presser here today.
“With the commissioning of this plant, our dependency on imports for fertilizer through Paradip Port will end. We will be able to meet urea requirements of Odisha and neighbouring States,” he added.
The Fertilizers Secretary said that the plant would generate a combined direct and indirect employment for about 10,000 people.
Talcher Fertilisers Limited (TFL), a joint venture of Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited (RCF), Coal India Limited (CIL), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and Fertiliser Corporation of India Ltd (FCIL).
A commitment of more than Rs 8,000 crore has already been made so far by TFL under various awarded contracts, Roul said.
Construction of the plant by a Chinese company is already underway, he added.
