Bhubaneswar: A ‘Tantrik’ was arrested for allegedly piercing multiple needles into the head of a 19-year-old girl in Bolangir in a bid to cure her from a disease.
The victim is now undergoing treatment at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital.
Reshma Behera, hailing from Inch village under Sindhekela Police limits in Bolangir district, went to the Tantrik, Santosh Rana of Jamutjhula village in the district for treatment of her disease.
Reshma had been suffering from a mysterious disease for four years, and her family had sought the Tantrik’s help after medical treatment failed to improve her condition. The Tantrik allegedly pierced syringe needles into Reshma’s head, leaving her unconscious.
Recently, Reshma’s family discovered the needles and removed them, before taking her to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. A CT scan revealed over 10 more needles still lodged in her head.
The girl’s father, Bishnu Behera, alleged that the Tantrik had taken his daughter into a room and brought her out after an hour, claiming she was cured. Instead, the family later discovered the horrifying truth.
The accused Tantrik has been arrested based on the family’s complaint.
