Keonjhar: A tragic incident has come to light in Birikuan village under Baria police station limits in Keonjhar district, where a teacher couple was found dead under suspicious circumstances.

The deceased have been identified as Brundaban Mahant, a teacher at Paduas High School, and his wife, Manjula Mahant, a Hindi teacher at Bank Government High School under Champua block.

Police on Thursday morning recovered the hanging body of Brundaban from his home. Shortly afterwards, the decomposed body of his wife, Manjula Mahant, also a teacher, was discovered in his under-construction house.

While the exact sequence of events is yet to be confirmed, police suspect that the husband may have killed his wife before ending his own life. An investigation is underway.

The couple, who married for love 22 years ago, had two sons. However, their relationship had soured in recent months, leading to separation.

Brundaban had been living with the children at his native village, Birikuan, under Baria police station limits, while Manjula was residing in a rented house in Champua.
