**Bhubaneswar:** A day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched ‘Khushi,’ the scheme to provide free sanitary napkins to girl students in government schools, OMMCOM NEWS team spoke to students across the State on their opinion over the programme.
Minati Dehury, the principal of Sulakhana Devi Balika Vidyalaya in Dhenkanal hailed the efforts of the State Government for a healthy adolescence of girls. “We are hopeful that it will be initiated with fair means for the improvement of the girl students,” she said.
The students of Sulakhana Devi Balika Vidyalaya were happy about the step taken by the government. One of the student said, “We are thankful to our Chief Minister for this step which will help the poor students a lot.”
Sukanti Panda, a teacher at Gudabalahadrapur Primary School, Balasore said, “This initiative of Naveen Patnaik is a welcome step towards the wellbeing of adolescent girls. This will ensure good health, hygiene and empower girls.”
The State Government will also expand social marketing of sanitary napkins for girls and women in the community at subsidized rates. Apart from free distribution in Government schools, the sanitary napkins will be available at Re 1 per piece for rural women.
