Bhubaneswar: Mortal remains of former Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra were consigned to flames at Satyanagar crematorium here in presence of top political leaders, well wishers and family members.

Mohapatra’s last rites were performed with Hindu rituals.

His son Sambit Mohapatra lit the leader's funeral pyre.

Notably, Mohapatra passed away at the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai at about 9.40 PM Sunday evening. He was 77.

The bureaucrat-turned-politician was put on ventilator since Friday morning last week after his health condition deteriorated.

Mohapatra’s demise was condoled by leaders cutting across party lines, bureaucrats including Odisha Governor S C Jamir, Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Narasingha Mishra, Lok Sabha Member Baijayant Panda, Odisha BJP President Basant Panda, Union ministers like Jual Oram, Suresh Prabhu,Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Prasad Harichandan among others.
