Phulbani: A 16-year-old boy was found hanging in his home under mysterious circumstances at Kendupadar area under Sadar police station in Phulbani.
The deceased has been identified as Abhijit Bargati, the only son of Jayanti Bargati and Pramod Bargati.
According to Jayanti, her husband, Pramod Bagarti, was a habitual drunkard who frequently physically abused her and their son. On the fateful day, she had left for work, leaving Abhijit and Pramod alone at home. When Jayanti returned home, she found her son hanging from the ceiling fan. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, Abhijit’s maternal uncle accused his brother-in-law Pramod of killing Abhijit. He alleged that Pramod had hanged in a ceiling fan Abhijit after killing him.
Upon being informed, police took Pramod into custody for questioning. While the exact cause of Abhijit’s death is still unknown, the police are investigating whether it was a case of suicide or murder.
“The exact cause of Abhijit’s death will be known after the post-mortem examination and a thorough investigation,” said P Swarup Kisan, IIC of Phulbani Town Police Station.
