Khurdha: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, an elephant killed a 14-year-old boy while his mother sustained severe injuries at Mahatpalli village under Nandapur Panchayat in Odisha’s Khurda district on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Satya Martha and his mother as Sulochana Martha.
According to reports, the incident took place when Sulochana had gone outside her house to attend nature’s call in the early hours today. She suddenly encountered a wild elephant. Seeing his mother being attacked by the elephant, Satya rushed to his mother’s rescue.
The elephant then left his mother and attacked Satya with its trunk. They were rescued by the villagers in a critical condition. The villagers rescued Satya and Sulochana to the Khurdha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where the doctors declared Satya dead.
Sulochana is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Forest Department officials have arrived at the village and started an investigation into the incident.
