Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning as intense heatwave conditions are expected to grip several parts of Odisha, with maximum temperatures likely to reach or exceed 40°C in many districts over the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, scorching daytime temperatures are likely in isolated pockets across Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Nuapada, Khordha, Rourkela, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Boudh, Paralakhemundi, Jajpur, Titlagarh, Balasore, Chandbali, Cuttack, Angul, Baripada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna, and Bolangir.
In addition to the rising mercury, hot and humid weather conditions are expected in coastal and adjoining districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at one or two places in the afternoon or evening over districts such as Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, and Kendujhar. Dry weather is expected to prevail in the rest of the state.
The IMD has advised residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses. People are urged to stay hydrated, avoid exposure to the sun during peak hours, and take special care of children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions.
