Tension At Lanjigarh Vedanta: OISF Havildar Charred To Death After Villagers Set Guards’ Room On Fire
**Kalahandi:** The tension in Lanjigarh’s Vendanta Alumina factory took a more violent turn after irate villagers set the security guards’ room ablaze and a security man was charred to death in the process. The deceased was identified as Sujit Kumar Minz of Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF).
Shocking scenes unfolded in front of the factory today when a face-off ensued between villagers and security guards of the factory.
A civilian identified as Dani Patra was killed in the face-off.
Reportedly, the Rengalpali villagers who have been displaced from their land were trying to break into the Vedanta factory to demand jobs.
Sources said that security guards of Vedanta resorted to lathi-charge to stop the agitators. As a result of this, Dani was killed in the face-off and over 40 persons were injured.
Irate locals then staged road blockade and set the guards’ room on fire following which Minz was charred to death. Prohibitory orders under Sec 144 have been clamped outside the factory, meanwhile Kalahandi SP has informed that law and order is under control.
As per spokesperson of Vedanta Ltd, Lanjigarh unit, the agitators had attacked them and pelted stones on the staff. They had refused to calm down despite several attempts by the OISF personnel. When the attack got severe OISF personnel attempted to push back the crowds and calm the situation.
“During this act a few people were injured and were moved immediately to the Government hospital, Lanjigarh. According to the local authorities, an OISF staff member and a protester have died due to their injuries. We will submit our statement to the authorities and provide every support to resolve the matter. We urge the people of Lanjigarh Block to maintain peace,” stated the spokesperson.
