Khurdha: A youth was allegedly hacked to death by a group of miscreants in broad daylight at Mukunda Prasad under Industrial police station in Khurdha district on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Sheikh Sajid, was attacked with swords near a garage and later pronounced dead at the Khurda hospital.
According to reports, the attackers chased Sajid before striking him down, fleeing the scene afterwards. The motive behind the murder is yet to be determined.
Sources suggest a past enmity with locals from nearby village may be linked to the incident.
The incident has sparked tensions in the locality, with unidentified persons attacking houses and damaging vehicles at Mukunda Prasad. To maintain law and order, armed police personnel have been deployed, and senior police officials, including Collector Chanchal Rana, have visited the scene to assess the situation.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
As tension continued, the district administration clamped prohibitory order under section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) with immediate effect in Mukunda Prasad area under Khurdha Municipality.
Assembly of more than five persons, demonstration, dharna, obstruction of road have been barred. Schools, colleges and commercial establishments will remain closed during the period.
The prohibitory order will remain in force till further order.
