Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted on Chandaka-Pitapalli Highway on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar after the youth who was hit by a waste-laden truck near Daruthenga on Sunday died during treatment on Friday.
Villagers from Daruthenga and Chandaka have blocked the Highway demanding a curb on the garbage trucks of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and a permanent solution to the dumping of waste at Daruthenga.
Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray reached the spot and expressed his support to the people of the village. As a result, a tense situation has arisen there. A large police force has been deployed there to monitor the situation.
Reportedly, the deceased youth Reshab Routray (22), the son of famous roadside eatery – Jungle View, was riding his bike when it was hit by the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck was on its way to Daruthenga dump yard.
After his death, police seized his body and initiated a probe into the matter. Meanwhile, locals have stopped the entry of garbage trucks to Daruthenga dump yard. As a result, trucks are dumping waste at Temporary Transit Centre (TTC) near Sainik School.
