Bhubaneswar: Protests at Paradip Port showed no signs of abating as the family members and colleagues of a worker, who died while undergoing treatment following an accident at a wagon site in the port, have been staging protests since last night.

Hailing from Nabadia village under Kujang block in Jagatsinghpur district, the deceased worker Satya Subrat Dalei was employed by a private contractor at the port and succumbed to injuries last night.

Holding the port authorities responsible for the untimely death of Dalei, his family members and fellow workers have been protesting at the port since last night, demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a job for one of Dalei’s family members, said sources.

Following his death, the protesters including his family gathered in front of Gate No. 3 of Paradip Port, and staged protests by placing the body of the deceased in front of the gate. They have, meanwhile, warned that the protest will continue until their demands are met by the port authorities. However, the movement of staff and vehicles through the gate has been affected due to the protest.

Upon being informed, police reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitators to restore normalcy till the last report came in.
