Nabarangpur: Tension prevailed at Jharigaon in Nabarangur district today as hundreds of men and women protested over the arrest of a person in connection with hurling of eggs and attack on the vehicle of Nabarangpur MP Ramesh Majhi on Thursday.
Over 500 supporters of Kunu Tiwari, a BJP worker who has been detained by Jharigaon police since last night marched in a rally from Jharigaon College Chhak attempted to barge into Jharigaon police station and raised slogans demanding Tiwari’s release.
Following the incident, around an hour later Umerkote SDPO rushed to Jharigaon police station with additional police force.
Subsequently, former MP and BJP State Unit vice-president Balabhadra Majhi held discussions with Jharigaon IIC over the situation.
Tiwari’s supporters blocked the Jharigaon-Umerkote road in front of the police station.
Nearly an hour and a half after Tiwari’s supporters staged the protest, over 300 BJD workers gheraoed Jharigaon police station demanding Tiwari’s immediate arrest in connection with the hurling of eggs and attack on MP Ramesh Majhi’s vehicle.
