Cuttack: The death of a labourer at a cement factory at Ghantikhal under Khuntini police limits triggered tension on Wednesday with residents of the locality holding the factory authorities responsible for the labourer’s death.
Seeking compensation for the family of the deceased labourer identified as Dibakar Pradhan, locals staged a protest outside the factory.
According to sources, Dibakar met with an accident while working inside the factory last night. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
On the other hand, locals alleged that the factory authorities delayed to take Dibakar to the hospital. Besides, the ambulance carrying Dibakar ran out of fuel on its way to the hospital. He might have been alive had he been taken to hospital on time. The factory authorities did not pay a single penny for the treatment of Dibakar which led to his death. Instead of bearing his medical expenses, the factory authorities told the hospital to treat him under Biju Swastya Yojna.
On a tip-off, police reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. Till the report came in, the factory authorities had not come to meet the deceased’s family and provide compensation to Dibakar’s family.
